Be part of the Southwestern Medical Center family.
We all like to picture ourselves as making a contribution. Even something that may seem insignificant can make a big impact. For a hospital patient, a smile and a few words of encouragement can make a difference. Volunteers help make that difference. By offering their time, our volunteers provide support, encouragement and a fresh perspective to patients and the hospital. In return, volunteers become part of our family, and they join the team of doctors, nurses, staff and others who make our patients feel at home.

Volunteer opportunities exists in guest relations, gift shop, patient services and office support. The Volunteer Services staff works closely with each new volunteer to find an assignment that matches his or her interests, skills, and motivation. Also the proceeds from the gift shop provide daily newspapers, a complimentary ivy plant in a coffee mug and a tote bag to carry personal belongings home. Each baby receives a hand knitted cap and bootie set. A teddy bear is presented to each child before they are taken to surgery.

Since 1962, the Southwestern Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary has provided our staff and patients with many hours of extra touches. From operating the Gift Shop to servicing the Information Desk to escorting patients through the halls, our Volunteers exemplify our goal of seeing patients as people first. Men and women make up the ranks of the Volunteer Auxiliary and new, smiling faces are always welcome.

Each year the Volunteer Auxiliary, through proceeds from the Gift Shop, provides thousands of dollars in healthcare scholarships to the educational institutions in our community.
