Southwestern Medical Center Shares its 2022 Community Benefit Report
Southwestern Medical Center has published its community benefit and economic impact report for the 2022 calendar year. This yearly report outlines the many ways the hospital positively contributes to Lawton Fort Sill, and surrounding areas and spotlights how it continues to support the health and well-being of those who live and work in the region.
“For more than a century, Southwestern Medical Center has provided high-quality, compassionate care to those who come to our hospital in need,” said Adam Bracks, CEO of Southwestern. “Without question, our hospital has a tremendous, positive impact on the communities we serve, not only as an essential provider of healthcare, but also as a large employer and an active community partner. The investments and contributions listed in our community benefit report reflect the hard work of our exceptional team and our hospital’s ongoing commitment to advancing the health and well-being of the patients and communities we serve.”
Southwestern Medical Center’s 2022 community benefit report highlights the hospital’s continued efforts to meet the growing healthcare needs of its communities through welcoming new providers, expanding service lines and continually investing in its facilities and healthcare technology. For example, in 2022, Southwestern added 31 affiliated providers and made more than $1 million in capital improvements, including investments in medical imaging equipment and a new health information management medical record scanning and archiving system.
Additionally, Southwestern provided more than $8 million in health services to those in need, demonstrating its continued commitment to ensuring everyone has access to care, regardless of their ability to pay.
Southwestern Medical Center is also devoted to creating environments where providers want to practice and employees want to work. In 2022, the hospital distributed more than $38 million in salaries, wages, and benefits for its approximately 500 employees, and contributed more than $140,000 in professional development and tuition assistance so its team members have the opportunity to learn and grow and improve the care they provide their patients.
The report shares several examples of how Southwestern is continually seeking ways to make a positive impact in the communities it serves, extending far beyond the physical walls of its facilities. Last year, for instance, the organization paid more than $5 million in provider, payroll, property, and sales taxes, displaying its commitment to fiscal responsibility that contributes to the area’s economic well-being. The hospital is also honored to have supported local activities and organizations that positively impact the region, including the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association, Cameron University, Fit Kids of Southwest Oklahoma, Great Plains Technology Center, Lawton Athletic Foundation, Lawton Business Women, Lawton Fort Sill Economic Development Corporation, Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce, Lawton Public School Foundation, March of Dimes, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Oklahoma Parkinson’s Alliance, Sonrise Ranch, and United Way of Southwest Oklahoma, among others.
“Our team at Southwestern embraces the privilege of caring for those who come through our doors, many of whom are our friends, family, and neighbors,” added Bracks. “We understand that we are an integral part of our community, and value the partnership and support we share with so many individuals and organizations in the Lawton Fort Sill area.”
