Our Labratory Services

Laboratory services are critical in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. At Southwestern Medical Center, our laboratory is equipped with quality technology and staff. Our team is proficient across all lab functions including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, microbiology, and transfusion medicine.

The Department of Laboratory Services is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Our team includes phlebotomists, laboratory assistants, medical technologists, respiratory therapists, nurses, and pathologists.  Some laboratory tests are completed in less than 30 minutes, but some take two to three days.  The test results are then reported to the ordering physician.

Most testing for SWMC patients is performed on-site, but we utilize the services of quality reference laboratories, including LabCorp, for tests not available within our scope of service.

About Our Laboratory Team

Our laboratory team is proficient across all lab functions, including hematology, chemistry, and microbiology. Lab technicians mostly analyze urine, tissue, and blood samples to determine the presence of infection, bacteria, or other abnormalities. These results will then be made available to the physician who ordered testing on the patient’s behalf.

Some laboratory screenings are available within thirty minutes of testing, but often samples take up to two days to process.

We are committed to providing the best laboratory services possible.
